Click below for another prayer guide from John 16 that I’m using tonight in our church’s Wednesday prayer meeting. We’ve been working through portions of the “Farewell Discourses” in John’s Gospel right before Jesus’ arrest.
Our prayer meeting goes like this:
First, I use an International Mission Board prayer guide called “Loving the Lost of the World Through Prayer.” You can request boxes of these for free from the IMB (www.imb.org), and there are a bunch of volumes of them. They’re not bound to particular dates on the calendar, so you can use any volume at any time. I pick one of the people groups in that prayer guide, read through the description, and then lead us in prayer for that group and missionaries among them.
Second, we move to the prayer guide that you see below. I briefly explain each section of verses. Then, we have folks who are gathered around circular tables take a few minutes to pray through the requests of those sections. I tell them to use my prayer points simply as a guide or prayer starter. After each prayer time, I come back and walk through the next set of verses, and we pray again. After the passage is completed, we ask for any personal prayer requests and pray for those. That’s it! It usually lasts an hour.
These prayer guides – both the ones I’m posting here and the IMB ones I mentioned above – are useful for groups or for individuals.
